Whole Mothering Center
Southeast Texas Maternal Resources
Educational Classes,  Series and Support Groups
Personalized Educational Programs

The Whole Mothering Center offers a series of educational and preparation courses for expectant mothers
dependant on what her individual goals are. Our programs consist of a series of classes, activities and
services which cover virtually all the "basics" of becoming a mother as well as involvement in support and
discussion groups to help gain other perspectives on motherhood and the choices and challenges it presents.
Programs are designed to empower women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum year. We will
work towards the goal of helping the mother maintain optimal physical and emotional health during pregnancy.
We will also present her with relevant information to help her make the best decisions about the kind of birth
experience she desires. During her postpartum program, we will teach her to continue practicing those healthy
habits in her mothering and lifestyle so that her baby has the very best start in life.

Our intent in designing our programs is to help foster a community of women who feel empowered in the
mothering decisions they've made and know that they've arrived at those decisions through adequate
preparation. We aspire to help reduce the cesarean section rate in Southeast Texas as well as to increase
breastfeeding rates and lower postpartum depression rates by arming women with information, education,
resources and support. Our primary goal is not to work in opposition to our medical community, but rather to
work in cooperation with them. We believe that by ensuring that expectant mothers and couples are prepared
for the many changes that occur with the onset of parenthood, they will be better able to adapt to their new
roles. If we ensure that the new family has adequate information, education, resources and support available
and mentors to help guide them into finding their strength as new parents, we will strengthen our community at
is foundations and create a future society that meets the needs of it's population.

Educational Programs are tailored to meet the needs of the individual mother, family and situation. For more
information on our educational groups, classes and series, please schedule a free consultation with one of our
staff members by

Childbirth Preparation & Support Series (4th Thursday of each month at The Logon Cafe')
Childbirth Preparation & Support Series:
This is a free discussion group series featuring a screening of "The Business of Being Born" and discussion of the film,  a
discussion on Dispelling "Birth Fear" and a look at local options and resources available to women in Southeast Texas. The
purpose of this series is to help women work through the fears and concerns that our culture has learned to associate with
giving birth. Open to all, though we do ask that you register as space is limited and we want to ensure that the groups are
small enough to allow each participant to contribute to the discussion. This is held on the 4th Thursday of each month at
the Logon Cafe'. Donation suggested.

Girls Body Awareness Class:
This is a basic body awareness class for young girls aged pre-teen through 16 accompanied by a female adult chaperon.
This class deals with changes that happen to a girl's body during puberty. This is NOT a "sex-ed" style class. In this class,
we will deal with facts and set the stage for a discussion between a trusted adult and the student. We cover physical
changes, hygiene and care of the female body (focusing on menstruation and the menstrual cycle), and common feelings
and emotional responses to puberty. For more information or to register for the "Girls Body Awareness" class, please
contact us through our contact page.

Young Women's Natural Family Planning Class:
This class covers much of the same material as the Girls Body Awareness Class and delves deeper into territory. Students
must be at least 17 years of age  in order to attend without adult supervision. We welcome younger women who are
accompanied by a female adult chaperon with permission from a legal guardian but will cover and explore information in a
style that will be directed towards a sexually active young woman. In this class, we will discuss fertility and how to conceive a
child or avoid pregnancy by charting menstrual cycles and learning fertility cues. Hormonal birth control methods have
been the subject of debate and the research links them to increased problems with fertility in not only a women's body but
also the bodies of her daughters and granddaughters. For more information or to register for the "Young Women's Natural
Family Planning" class, please contact us through our contact page.

Boobs and Babies: Made For Each Other!
Open to couples, mothers, father, grandmothers and anyone else interested in learning the basics of breastfeeding. The
four-class series is mostly intended for parents or parents-to-be but is also ideal for employers or anyone interested in the
social issues related to breastfeeding. We will cover laws concerning breastfeeding in public and how to talk to family and
friends who might be uncomfortable with breastfeeding. The four parts of the series are:
  • "What's the fuss? Breastfeeding in 2008"
  • "Breast Prepared - Getting Ready to be One of 'Those' Moms"
  • "Tech Support - Common Breastfeeding Issues"
  • "Beyond the Breast"
For more information or to register for the "Boobs & Babies" class, please contact us through our contact page.

See Mama Roar!
See Mama Roar! is our 3 class series on safety awareness for mothers. We'll be cooperating with the Beaumont Police
Department for part of this series and will bring in an outside instructor for part of it. The 3-part series includes:
  • "Safe While Out and About" - practical safety tips for mothers with small children
  • "Touch Me Not!" - an introduction to personal safety and self defense
  • "Mama's Packin'" - a concealed handgun carry course tailored to meet the needs of women, specifically mothers
For more information or to register for the "See Mama Roar" class, please contact us through our contact page.
